Description
This AUTOGRAPHED puck signed by Doug Weight #39 comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Doug Weight was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft with their second pick, 34th overall. He played 65 games with the Rangers in his first full NHL season before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers. He played nearly nine season with the Oilers, serving as their captain from 1999-2001. Due to Edmonton's precarious financial situation, Weight was traded to the St. Louis Blues in 2001. He played with the Blues for three seasons besides the 2004-05 NHL lockout season. During the 2005-06 season, Weight was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in January 2006. In the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals, Weight was injured during game 5 and missed the remainder of the Finals. However, the Hurricanes went on to clinch the championship in Game 7. Weight returned to the Blues as a free agent for the 2006-07 season where he played his 1000th game. He went on to play for the Anaheim Ducks, then was signed to the New York Islanders in July 2008. Weight announced his retirement in the 2010-11 season and was subsequently hired by the Islanders as an assistant coach and special assistant to the GM. In January 2017, Weight assumed the role of interim coach for the Islanders and was hired as head coach in April 2017. All proceeds will benefit the Kids 'N Community Foundation, the Carolina Hurricanes charitable arm.
